WHAT IS IBOGAINE?

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound derived from the root bark of the African Iboga shrub (Tabernanthe iboga), traditionally used in ritualistic contexts by indigenous peoples for its psychoactive properties. As a powerful psychedelic, Ibogaine is primarily recognized for its potential therapeutic effects in treating substance use disorders, particularly opioid addiction. Ibogaine is also a powerful remedy for PTSD and trauma-related symptoms, as well as chronic pain and various neurological conditions. It interacts with multiple neurotransmitter systems, promoting a profound introspective experience, which can lead to insights and physical and emotional healing.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IBOGA AND IBOGAINE?

Ibogaine is used in a medical setting for treating addiction and addictive behaviors, plus PTSD and chronic pain, whereas Iboga is used in a ceremonial, shamanic setting. While Ibogaine is derived from Iboga, the experiences are quite different. When you take Ibogaine, your liver converts it to the active metabolite Noribogaine, which is what is responsible for eliminating the cravings and desires to use afterwards. Noribogaine also produces an amazing antidepressant and anti-anxiety effect. Ibogaine is one of 12 alkaloids found in Iboga, so in order to get the full saturation of Noribogaine, you want to take Ibogaine HCL, as Iboga does not provide enough concentration of Ibogaine to deliver the clinical benefits. At Bassé clinic, we use 99.7% pure pharmaceutical grade Ibogaine HCL, that has been lab tested and verified for our center.

IS IBOGAINE PSYCHEDELIC?

Ibogaine provides a profoundly powerful psychotropic experience that many individuals find to be remarkably insightful and expansive. Participants often describe the Ibogaine journey as akin to a vivid dream or a life review, where they reflect on pivotal moments in their lives as if watching a movie unfold with their eyes closed. This experience can bring to the surface trapped emotions and memories, allowing for safe exploration and processing of these events. Although the process can be challenging, most clients discover that the healing benefits far outweigh the effort, and many actually love the adventure!

IS IBOGAINE LEGAL IN MEXICO?

Yes. Ibogaine is not a scheduled or controlled substance under Mexican federal law, which is why medically supervised Ibogaine treatment can operate legally and openly in Mexico. This is different from the United States, where Ibogaine is classified as a Schedule I substance and is not legally available in a clinical setting. Bassé's program operates within Mexico's regulatory framework, with treatment administered under the supervision of licensed Mexican physicians.

WHAT DOES THE IBOGAINE EXPERIENCE ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE?

The active ibogaine session typically lasts 12 to 24 hours. Within approximately 90-120 minutes of taking ibogaine, many clients begin to experience a significant reduction in withdrawal symptoms. As the acute withdrawal experience subsides, clients can begin to turn their attention toward the deeper therapeutic and healing process. Many people describe an intense, dream-like state in which memories, emotions, and insights surface - often called a "life review." There is commonly a period of visual phenomena followed by a deeper introspective phase. It is demanding, not recreational. Physical sensations include altered balance, sensitivity to light and sound, and fatigue. You will be in a private room with medical staff present throughout. Most guests describe it as one of the most significant experiences of their lives.

HOW LONG DOES THE FULL PROGRAM TAKE?

Most clients are appropriate for our standard 8-day/7-night program. The first day or two involve arrival, orientation, medical assessment, and preparation. The ibogaine session itself takes place over a 12 to 24 hour period, and the remaining days are dedicated to rest, reflection, and facilitated integration sessions with our psychologist and integration specialists. Because every client's needs are different, our medical team determines the appropriate length of stay based on your individual circumstances and detox needs - if a longer stay is medically appropriate, we simply prorate the additional nights. Our goal is never to have you stay longer than necessary, but to give you the time and support needed for treatment to be approached safely and thoughtfully.

IS IBOGAINE SAFE?

Ibogaine is a powerful compound that carries real risks if administered without proper medical oversight. Ibogaine is also an experimental medication that has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for medical use, and every client reviews and signs an informed consent form before treatment. At Bassé, every candidate undergoes comprehensive cardiac screening including, but not limited to, a 12-lead ECG, blood panel, and full health history review before any treatment is offered. Our on-site physician supervises the entire session. We decline candidates who are not medically appropriate - including those with QT prolongation, heart disease, liver disease, certain psychiatric conditions, among other more specialized conditions. No screening process can guarantee 100% safety, but thorough screening reduces the risk significantly.

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR IBOGAINE TREATMENT?

Ibogaine is contraindicated for individuals with cardiac conditions (particularly QT prolongation or irregular heartbeat), liver disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, personal/family history of psychosis or certain psychiatric conditions, and those taking SSRIs, lithium, stimulants, or methadone without a supervised taper. We conduct thorough screening precisely to identify these contraindications. If you are not a candidate, we will tell you directly and help you explore alternatives.

WHAT MEDICAL MONITORING HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?

Our facility maintains continuous cardiac monitoring (ECG) throughout the active session, IV access capability, and full emergency resuscitation equipment on hand at all times. Medical oversight is provided by Dr. Mikel A. Velázquez Pérez, an ACLS-certified physician with extensive experience in emergency medicine, acute care, and the management of critically ill patients. Throughout his medical career, he has worked across multiple hospital and clinical settings, gaining substantial hands-on experience in emergency response, patient stabilization, cardiac monitoring, and the management of complex and high-acuity cases.

At Bassé there is a strong focus on patient safety, continuous clinical monitoring, early recognition of potential complications, and appropriate escalation of care when necessary. You will never be left alone.

DO I NEED TO STOP MY CURRENT MEDICATIONS BEFORE TREATMENT?

Certain medications must be tapered or stopped before Ibogaine treatment can proceed safely. These include SSRIs, SNRIs, stimulants, lithium, and opioid maintenance medications (Suboxone, methadone). Our medical team will review your complete medication list during the screening process and advise on timing; any taper itself is managed by your prescribing physician before you arrive. Never stop medications without medical guidance.

WHERE IS BASSÉ LOCATED AND HOW DO I GET THERE?

Bassé is located in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Most guests fly into Tulum International Airport (TQO); Cancún International Airport (CUN), about one hour away, is also an option. We provide detailed arrival instructions upon booking. Tulum is easily accessible by direct flights from major US, Canadian, and European cities. Our team will coordinate ground transportation arrangements as part of your arrival planning.
